Lee joined Manchester United on a youth contract and continued to progress his way up the academy system. His performances at youth level earned him his first professional contract and a taste of first team football. Lee later joined Oldham Athletic, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday, where he made over 200 appearances.
On 8 January 2021, Lee signed an 18-month contract with Bolton Wanderers and made his debut against Exeter City. Lee played a key role in the club’s promotion to League One and signed a one-year extension at the end of the 2021-22 season.
