In 2012, John made his professional debut for Cardiff City. During his time at the club, he was loaned out to Barnsley, Chesterfield, and Rangers. He later signed permanently with the Scottish Premiership side, before joining Swansea City. John has also represented Wales at youth and senior level.
On 7 January 2021, John joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 and played a key role in the club’s promotion to League One. He signed on a permanent three-year deal at the end of the season.
